The world asks:Are these people the victims or are they the persecutors?Does God allow religious war? Does God call upon people to hate, persecute and destroy each other? The answer is: God does not allow religious war. Religion is a cruel excuse for war. Religious wars, fueled by ethnic hatred, greed and revenge, are conceived by dictators and terrorists. God's people may suffer for their Faith, but they MUST not murder for it. God calls upon the leaders of all Faiths to unmask the lies that lead to religious persecution and war, and likewise, God calls upon all people of Faith to forgive each other and to work together for peace. What can we do? How can we turn voices of war into voices of peace? It is not enough to sit in our comfortable homes and blame others. This year, an unique opportunity is presented to us, one that can rekindle the still small voice of religious reconciliation in the world. It is the observance of World Sabbath, a call to prayer on a holy day of peace, love and rejoicing. The World Sabbath brings people of diverse beliefs together, to experience a moment of unity, and to celebrate with the children as they raise their banners of peace on high. This year, the twelfth annual World Sabbath of Religious Reconciliation is held. Will you take part? Will you help spread the spirit of peace throughout every congregation, assembly, community, mosque and temple in the world? We are counting on you. If you wish to celebrate this new Holy Day of Peace in your own communities, we recommend that you use our official World Sabbath Liturgy, written by our founder, the Rev. Rodney Reinhart. |
